Adding oils to prepoo your natural hair is even better because you can treat an issue a hair issue to the core with essential oils. However, essential oils being so raw, they cannot be added directly to your scalp, they need a carrier to be absorbed in your scalp and treat your hair to the core.

What is a carrier?

A carrier is an oil or a conditioner in which you add your essential oil in order for them to be absorbed in your scalp. A conditioner can be a good carrier especially for strong essential oils such as peppermint. It will penetrate easily in your hair using the conditioner because of its creamy consistency. You can check Mosara’s very own conditioner.

Antibacterial oils

For everyone who has oily skin, your scalp can have issues with product build up. The scalp is an extension of your skin after all. If you have a lot of build up and you want to add an oil that will treat this issue, you should consider antibacterial oils to prepoo your natural hair.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree is one of the best oils to prepoo natural hair because of its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It can help unclog pores and improve blood circulation. You can mix it in your conditioner, about 8-10 drops and apply to your hair. Oils aren’t meant to moisturize your hair; they only help seal in the moisture. Leave it in for 30 minutes then rinse it off and proceed with your shampoo. What it does is cleanse the build up for your shampoo to be able to go in and cleanse effectively.

Lavender oil

Lavender oil has been found to have antibacterial properties. But it can generate the growth of cells and reduce stress. If you want to make your wash routine pleasant, go ahead and burn this essential oil while doing your routine to reduce stress. Add the lavender oil to a carrier oil. Instead of a conditioner, you can swap it for a carrier oil such as coconut oil. Lavender oil cannot be absorbed in your hair so it needs an oil that moisturizes your hair and coconut oil is the perfect candidate. Add 5 drops of lavender oil in your coconut oil and apply to your hair for 30 minutes or even overnight before shampoo.

It gives that cold and tingly effect that you’ve seen in some hair products and is most popularly found in chewing gum and candies. Peppermint cannot be applied directly on your scalp because it actually burns. Only a small percentage is needed to achieve the desired results. Peppermint has cleansing properties and the tingling sensation means it’s increasing blood circulation in that area. Just add a few drops to your carrier oil and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing it out.  Then proceed to shampoo and deep condition your hair. Your hair will retain the moisture better because your pores will have opened up.
